Questioning
Written by TPOK Archivist on October 31, 2017
Questioning is something people do when they are unsure if the assumptions they had previously made about themselves hold true. Some people may find themselves questioning their gender identity or sexual orientation.
Questioning begins the first time a person feels or notices something which does not fit with their previous assumptions and ends with a resolution to these feelings and certainty of identity.
Being unsure about your sexual orientation or gender identity.
The process of exploring one’s own gender identity, gender expression, and/or sexual orientation. Some people may also use this term to name their identity within the LGBTQIA community.
The process of considering or exploring one’s sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
The questioning of one’s gender, sexual identity, sexual orientation, or all three is a process of exploration by people who may be unsure, still exploring, and concerned about applying a social label to themselves for various reasons. The letter “Q” is sometimes added to the end of the acronym LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender); the “Q” can refer to either queer or questioning.
